EARTH AS GODDESS

gaia-6

The Goddess – Gaia

Gaia’s Mantle

Starlight and brilliance of
Sun’s solar flare
White and golden red
Woven tapestry of
Jet black Cosmos.

Green and brown
Of fertile land
Blue of sun kissed
Watery basin
Rainbow of color
Spread across
Pattern of cloth
Textured and etched
In crystal and stone.

Blackness of heated striation
Of rock’s core as gentle bud
Pushes upward towards sun’s
Radiant blessing as Gaia sheds
Her skin and dons Spring’s
Celestial mantle of fertility.

The Hebrew Letters and The Qabalistic Tree

The Hebrew alphabet is called the Aleph-Beth and each of 22 letters is assigned to a specific Path on the Tree of Life. Each letter has multiple meanings associated with it and carries the energy of the specific word associated with it. When used in conjunction with the attribute and energy of the Path of connection on which it is placed, there is a greater depth of esoteric knowledge to be gained about the inner keys and workings of that Path.

It should be noted that this is merely an extract of a much larger process of study and should only be considered as a piece of the greater puzzle of a Hermetic system that has its roots in Jewish Mysticism and has stood the test of time in its efficacy and use as a tool of deeper gnosis within the Western Hermetic Mysteries. I encourage you to look at the references at the end of this writing and formulate your own opinions about its fuller application to your own spiritual path. This post will provide some basic information about Kaph and its work on the Path of Opening.

khaf

Kaph is the Hebrew letter placed on the 21st Path connecting the spheres of Chesed and Netzach. Kaph means open hand, or specifically the “palm of the hand” in English. An open hand invites participation. The open hand indicates offering and receptiveness to what is offered or what is to be received. The center point of the hand is the palm. This is where all pools and accumulates in its fullest form and it is from this central space that what was accumulated flows freely out when the hand is opened and flattened. This energy speaks of the receptiveness to work co-creatively and in harmonious collaboration. In divination, the palm of the hand reveals ones destiny and choice is then offered by free will as to what will actually come of that pre-determined fate. This energy moves through this path of creative expression. The anticipated outcome from the influx of flow of each of the connecting spheres would be a product of elevated form. The test lay in what course is chosen as each has desire for its own dominance.

In order to understand the work of Kaph and its path, you need the point of reference of the connecting spheres that lay at either side of this path.

Presentation13

The Sphere of Chesed is also known as Gedulah or the sphere of majestic authority expressed through the refined Power of Love. The love of Chesed is one that has the ability to see well beyond what is ego driven desire and what is the correct alignment of heart infused by Higher Will. Chesed is known as the Mercy. Love and the broad perspective that is all inclusive becomes the merciful action that can justifiably wield its power in a place of Divine authority.

The Sphere of Netzach is the place of establishing the balance of hedonistic and aesthetic ideals. Love is the primary focus, but not at the expense of over indulgence in physical pleasure. This is also the place of expression of Love of Nature in all her forms and the creativity that is called forth to fulfill that task. Netzach is known as the sphere of Victory. The principle of victory here is not one of wanton take-over and infringement of another’s space, but rather victory that is found within the triumph over oneself.

The 21st Path is one of opportunity for grace. The state of grace has many meaning but within this path it is the reflection of the beginning of refinement of self and surroundings to become in alignment with the spiritual aspiration of selflessness and greater perspective. The lens of the camera opens and the world in which we claim our victories is seen for its narrow view. As the lens opens wider the expanse and truth of what we have claimed falls away and the real worth and value of those experiences is revealed as part of a larger whole that encompasses the victories of much more than ourselves. What happens in the stages between as each of the extremes coalesce on central ground determines the outcome of ascent to claim the Higher Self or descent for further refinement and accumulated experience.

The same may be said of the clenched fist that inflicts pain in its expansive thrust or the choice of reaching out with hand open to gently caress and comfort. The energy of Kaph is the choice of remaining in a state of openness. Of trust that all will be well when receptivity is available and also knowing that there are times that call for the harsh fist that crushes what it grasps. This is the ultimate lesson of Victory and Mercy and what measures will be taken towards the balance of each in accord with what is right action.

Each of the Paths of the Tree has the attribution of an element. The 21st Path is one of water. If we think of the properties of water and the image of the open hand the invitation is one of flowing and graceful movement. As we move our hands, currents of energy flow, move in response and are made to be responsive in a variety of ways. The great works of art created by the hand move the emotional waters within the individual.

Kaph is the path of opening. Kaph is the human expression of physical form reaching towards another. Kaph is victory that is birthed from the creative hand that gently holds the fragility of beauty in its palm. Kaph is the mercy that draws to itself ability to preserve life and then release it so it may soar.

The Sphere of the Creation of Form

Having crossed the Abyss of Da’at, there is now a distinct and clear separation between the Supernals of Kether, Chokmah and Binah and all that lay below them. The Supernals are the creators of what is given form, essence, personality and life in the subsequent spheres below it. The final product of this creative emanation flows downward into the sphere of Malkuth and the physical manifest form.

Chesed MyTree

Take my hand, child
You have come far and
Your journey has been
Long and treacherous.

Come sit beside me
And feel the weight
Of expansion as it moves
Through your being.

Open your eyes and
Look down from the
Great heights you
Have carefully scaled.

All comes to a precise
Point and what once
Was unfocused has
Sharpened to crystal clarity.

I offer you sanctuary but
You must walk through the
Heat of transformative change
Before you come to me.

And, if you stand before me
Having declared your
Intent to service
The threshold shall be opened
And the leap of ultimate faith will
Be your new course.

Chesed is the place of cosmic memory. This is the refined aspect of the sphere of Yesod (the storehouse of images) having been filtered, synthesized and finalized by the spheres acting upon this Yesodic energy in the ascent towards Chesed. Having arrived at this state of full access to memory of the aeons and creation itself, work may begin towards incorporating and using that memory where choice and Free Will are called to action. Chesed teaches and demands obedience to the laws of nature and the cosmic laws……. Read the Full Article at WitchVox

Geburah Sphere

I sit shivering in the dark
Eyes closed and all of my being
Filled with fear that I will
lose my most valued possession.

Flame and heat surround
yet the air is dense with
energy that moves like
cold steel wielded by a
forceful hand.

What I cling to so fiercely
I have long ago outgrown
But the comfort and safety
provided are like soothing
ointment on wounds that have
yet to be opened.

I want to be free of these chains.
I want to be whole.
What I carry are bits and pieces
of my own folly and the thought of
excision sends me into retreat.

As reason gives way to desire
and understanding stands at the
threshold with outstretched hand
I rise from this place of cowering.
I open my eyes to see what lay
ahead and a cold dark hand
grasps my own as I look into
the eyes of myself.

The only demons I had to fear is what
lay within the spectre of my shadow.
With the single act of embrace
all that is to be discarded
falls from me.

I am free. I am strong and
what I had feared losing the most
has only been transformed and
forged anew.
The dark gives way to light and
I step forward to greet the
final outcome.

Remember the place of beginnings
Remember when the All was One
Solar flame and lunar tides
Contained within manifest core

Remember the great divide
Vibration of form and formless
Remember the volume of time
Friction stirring the belly of outpour
Waters blackened, womb and seed issue forth

Remember the softness of skin
The strength of sinewy limb
Remember the Great Mother and
The secrets her womb carries within
Remember the Father’s golden orb
His body re-membered by magick of Will
Remember the place of separation
And hold sacred the celestial bodies of Light

The Principle of Gender 1.

Gender is in everything; everything has its Masculine and Feminine Principles; Gender manifests on all planes.

Gender and polarity are often points of confusion. Although gender is an aspect of polarity it is a dynamic point of differentiation in its own right. Gender spans more than the physical dissimilarities that separate a man from a woman. Its energetic principle is one of expansion and contraction moving in a rhythmic force of release and receipt.

On the Qabalistic Tree of Life the Pillar that provides Form is the Feminine Gender. This is the gender of receipt, contraction and boundary. The Pillar that provides Force is that of the Masculine. This is the gender of release, expansion and expulsion of formlessness. Both working rhythmically are the necessary actions for the eventual manifestation in Malkuth, the physical world. It is the container of the feminine egg that receives the insemination of the masculine sperm; the two quickening into the first stirrings of human life.

We don’t have to look too far to see these concepts running through every level of our existence. Recognizing them is just the first step. As we explore their deeper meanings, formulate our own definitions and begin to apply the dynamics of their energies, the magick and mysteries of our place in the mind of the All will begin to reveal itself affirming that we are co-creators in the Great Work.

I am currently at the third week of a five part series I am teaching called Self-Possession.  I love teaching and as is always the case, I unravel my own complexities and truths around anything that I teach.  So, with this thought in mind, I wanted to write about the Truths and the Dares that arise in exploration of those aspects of our nature identified as Lower-Middle and Higher Self.

A few basics about the points of reference before the interesting part begins.  Most spiritual traditions acknowledge that we are more than the flesh, bone and other physical matter that our bodies are constructed from.  Depending on what that tradition’s beliefs may be there are three to five parts of definition of what constitutes our soul or life force. Broadly at a psychological/spiritual level these relate to:

The Lower Self- A primal or animal self driven by instinct, survival and compelling urge.

The Middle Self- A self formed by conditioned responses, thoughts and emotions that seeks to balance the individual needs and the collective and societal patterns of what you “should” want.

The Higher Self- A SELF guided by the interface and acknowledgement of Divinity as an immanent presence within and without their being.

The goal being to bring into alignment and communication these varied aspects of ourselves and creation of a whole and enlivened individual.  In seeking this integration there are many perceived truths that are firmly clung to as being the real and true nature of that aspect of being.  This line of cause then produces the reactant effect of challenging those truths and daring to recalculate, refocus and reassess the ideology and emotions that empower something that may be unworthy of holding on to.

I thought it would be a good exercise to excavate some of these things I believe to be true and challenge their validity.  Although, this could become the basis of some shadow work, that is not my intent for this exercise.  It is, however a way for me to identify those areas of instinct, emotion and mind that need reformatting to make them more useable in personal spiritual work.

Truths and Dares:

Lower Self: The Animal, primal and instinctual self. The Unconscious

Truth– I fear failure, so I wear the mask of composure and success, especially when I have failed.

Dare– Accepting that failure is the partner of success.  At some point and in some time failure will be the winner, and the lesson that emerges from that failure is what will ultimately become the success.  I dare you to inspect your feelings about failure and what mask you cloak them in.

Truth- I am at war with my physical nature and needs. So, I ignore what I want and suppress those urges that would remove me from a space of control.

Dare- Structure and order are part of the refining process. So is chaos and abandon.  These are the testing grounds of what makes us truly human. I dare you to surrender to a primal impulse and allow the natural flow to loosen the boundaries you limit yourself by.

Middle Self: The Conditioned self by culture, collective consciousness, values and society expectations;conformity. Conscious Awareness

Truth- I question that I am fully capable of what others believe to be true of me.  This stems from feelings of inadequacy and not truly believing that I am as smart and knowledgeable as I should be.

Dare- We are conditioned by society to behave and act a certain way.  We are groomed by our parents that successful people are this way or another. We, as a culture venerate the educated and the higher the degree the more we aspire to be and act as these repositories of great thought and deed characterize. The challenge is in realizing that each of us has their own unique set of gifts, expertise and knowledge.  The truth of the matter is that the energy and time I spend in self-deprecation is wasted energy and time.  When I belittle or undervalue myself I am no longer acknowledging the expansive and flexible nature of my real self. This form of contraction cuts off the flow and exchange of ideas and information that are the supports of being knowledgeable and sharing that knowledge. By seeking out what I don’t know, I will learn more.  By fulfilling my own expectations and giving the best that I can there is nothing more that I can do.  By looking to hone my strengths and and using them as the building blocks of what I truly feel needs deeper understanding and clarity I also build a healthier sense of what I know myself to be capable of.  I dare you to objectively evaluate your strengths and weaknesses.  I dare you to step into the power of those strengths and those weaknesses and lay claim to both as a way of stepping into your full potential with the correct tools of self-knowledge.

Higher SELF: Connection to the Limitless All, Divine Spark. Higher or Expanded Consciousness

Truth- I try to follow a path of Service, but often question if I am serving only myself and my ego or working in accord with my Higher SELF.

Dare- Sometimes the lines blur between what is ego and what is EGO.  When I use the small “e” for ego I am referring to those actions that are guided by self-interest purely for the sake of personal reward. The uppercase “E” is the Ego that acknowledges itself as having a higher spiritual nature and accepts the responsibilities and the joys of that place in the larger cosmos.  I am coming to learn that there is more ego is thinking that every spiritual act must be self-sacrificing, instead of affirming that each has its place in spiritual work and at times what begins as one form may actually be better served by the other.  I dare you to fully accept your place of Divine Kingship.

Truth- I choose to ignore my physical nature and am often only concerned with my spiritual nature.  I could easily become a “spiritual junkie”.

Dare- There is the constant reminder that this is a lifetime of physical corporeal form that keeps me in my body.  When I was younger I loved the feeling of moving, leaping and defying gravity as a classically trained dancer.  I was euphoric in losing myself in the music and becoming part of a vibrational stream having no shape or form other than what the music dictated and the story portrayed.  There was freedom to shed the mundane and become something more; something different.  This is the joy that I feel in spiritual work. This is the same losing of myself in meditation or ritual that reminds me that I am so much more than what the limitations of physical form allow.  And, this is my greatest challenge. Seeing this physical form as limiting.  There is a need for balance in all things and the lesson of this experience is in union of the manifest and the formless essence that is co-creator of the experience I have in this life’s journey.  Ignoring or giving more weight to one or the other is a form of avoidance and resistance, neither of which serve the purpose of spiritual growth. I dare you to find that sweet spot of realization of your spiritual nature using a physical vehicle for its expression and finding your place of balance (not, necessarily equibalance) in feeding both.

I invite you to put some of your own truths to the test and be daring enough to challenge the way in which they serve or hinder your personal growth.  At first glance it may seem like an easy enough thing to do since we all have the same rhetoric we return to as response when asked what we don’t like about ourselves or would like to change.  Abandon that planned response and dig a little deeper into those areas that are just below the surface, waiting for your recognition and assimilation into the process of self-discovery.

Blessings on the journey of a lifetime!

“ The spoken word changes reality.
The written word is manifestation of that reality.
And, the two combined cause physiological response
and affirmation of manifestation.”

Many people confuse pathworkings with guided meditations as they become more involved in developing their spiritual practice.  The two may seem like the same thing simply with different nomenclature,  but when you have a better understanding of what the effects and goals of each are, the differences become more discernible and more apparent.

I write a lot of pathworkings and usually incorporate them in my workshops and articles as I can.    For years I used guided meditations to relax and reaffirm myself or simply as a way to deepen my ability to remain open and receptive to new information.

Take a look at the picture above.  A pathwworking is similar to this image or analogy.  You walk in  the woods and encounter many different types of plants and animals.  Everything you see evokes a memory, whether you are consciously aware of it or not.  There are many side paths you may take as well, each leading to another part of the same woods, but having arrival by a different, route different, group of encounters, etc.  And, eventually you arrive at your destination, but with many much more knowledge of what would have gone largely unnoticed had you used a variety of keys.

If you were experiencing a guided meditation, the route would be planned. One path would be decided upon and you would not stray from that path as you moved towards the final destination.  Each from will get you to the destination of your choosing, but the way in which you get there is determined by what is straight forward and what relies on analogy and inference.

The choice of using one of these over the other is usually determined by that goal.  Changes to overt behaviors such as tools for relaxation, energizing, sleep problems, smoking, boosting self confidence, etc.. are generally more effected by a guided meditation.  Ongoing spiritual work, energetic anatomy or connection to varied states of consciousness generally respond to a pathworking.  Now these are not hard and fast rules, but general guidelines about  which would produce better results.

Another consideration in choice is that the events or scenarios presented in a guided meditation will directly align with whatever the issue is.  So, if you are stressed and want to relieve that stress the guided meditation will take the opposite form of what you are working on.  If the goal is one of boosting your self-confidence, the guided meditation will offer a safe setting where you feel confident and strong.  You may be instructed to visualize yourself acting in a manner that displays this confidence.   The key word here being “guided”.  In this form of meditation you are guided or directed towards your goal using scenes, words and imagery that you can easily recognize and then imprint into your own psyche.

The word “pathworking” is derived from the Qabalistic Tree of Life and the paths of connection between the spheres.  Each path acts as synthesizer of the pure essence of energy of the spheres they connect; and stands as both extremes as well as the central point of balance.  Originally the concept of a pathworking related to the inner work the initiate would encounter as they internalized the energy of the spheres and the paths to refine and transform their magickal endeavors.  Because of the potency and dynamics of the combined energies, specific keys and imagery  were used in the creation of the pathworking that were meant to access the deeper realms of consciousness and open it to a state of union with the individual’s Higher consciousness.   It is from this initial intent that pathworkings are formulated and constructed and are now used within a variety of  magickal or spiritual practices.   The underlying current is still fueled by the inroads of the original intent and the Qabalistic connections despite what surface modalities are used.

To be specific, a pathworking will incorporate a variety of tools as keys.  These may include  Astrology, Tarot images, Qabalah, Numbers/Colors or sensations. Often the settings have no overt alignment to what is being worked upon and the imagery used is one that acts to stimulate memory and subconscious association that can be processed through all of the spiritual bodies.

Next week:  I will offer a  Pathworking and a Guided Meditation as sample.

The first posting of the Dark Night of the Soul gave clue to the greater meaning and importance of this passage towards spiritual development; albeit an uncomfortable one. The Pathworking below can be used as a preparation and brief opening to the depths of this experience.

In this way, we can relate the Dark Night as one of integration of those parts of ourselves which lay hidden in the shadows.  We turn away from them, but they are ever present and waiting to inform us as we move forward on the Path.  The crisis of faith that is so often considered one of the core elements of the Dark Night is the testing of our ability to integrate those places where there is no perfect love and perfect trust with that part of ourselves that intuitively knows that Divinity is within and therefore ever present.

The Journey of the Shadow

Turn your focus and attention to your breath. Allow your consciousness to move with the rise and fall of your chest and the filling and release of the lungs. Continue in this manner for several breaths; allowing each to become softer, smoother and slower. With each breath your physical body appears to lighten and your center of consciousness floats upwards towards the inner eye. You find yourself enveloped by the mist of transition between the Physical and Astral. And as this veil thins and you see before you an opening in the fabric of the space around you.

A mist of Lavender surrounds this enclosure as you pass through the darkness of the Abyss. As you move through this space, feelings of foreboding and a sense of being out of place in a time that is neither here nor there and in a place that is both upwards and down simultaneously flood your emotions. You are disoriented and are aware of the depths of sadness and loneliness that is felt in this space. Your only thoughts are the hopes that you will pass quickly and easily through this space. Quite the contrary, time seems to slow and the angst seems to become greater. And, just as you are about to scream out in sheer frustration, you remember the lesson of surrender. You remember the call to trusting and the lessons of the “Fool”. You find that you are engulfed in shadow. Glimpses of light are hidden beneath what appear to be shadowy figures and although you do not feel threatened, you know this is a place of great power and well deserving of care and respect as you pass through.

There is no flooring under you and you have a sense of weightlessness and somehow being suspended in space. Although there are no definitive boundaries, the impression is one of being enclosed tightly in a very confining space. You take a deep, cleansing breath and you allow yourself to simply be open, receptive and non-resistant to lesson of this place of shadow. You take another deep breath in and ready yourself to move forward and explore this place. As soon as the sigh of exhale has passed, feelings of sadness begin to well up within you. You are fearful and now wish you had decided against entering this space. Your former resolve of being receptive and open weakening steadily as you begin to feel that you are sinking even deeper into this space of darkness.

You take another deep breath, hoping to restore your composure and as you exhale your awareness that you are alone in this space heightens. You strain to hear any sound that might point you in the direction of moving towards something; even the faintest sound of another human or animal would give you comfort. But, there is nothing, absolute and pure nothingness in this space. Your breath comes in short bursts now and the combination of sheer and utter loneliness, silence and disorientation keeps this rapid pace going.

You try to move, and find that with each step you are moving deeper into the shadowy fabric of this space, so, you decide to simply remain still. You look around and find that your eyes still have not adjusted to this deep and pervading darkness that now seems to be vibrating with energy; but you can neither see nor hear the source of it. You would normally have called out to the Divine or your guides to help you through this difficult passage, but you feel as though they have forsaken you as well and that in the depths of this seemingly unending well your pleas would remain unheard. This thought provokes a surge of emotional release and you begin to sob, at first quietly, then uncontrollably with louder and higher pitch.

These cries crescendo and you find that you are keening, screaming from the very base of your throat and the depths of your Soul in desperate release of this overwhelming sadness and fear. You call out to those Divine beings who are your patrons, and the only sound in return is the increased volume of your own voice. You call out to those who are family and friends. Again, the only return being the echo of your frantic cries against a surface you can neither see nor feel.

With one final exhausted effort, you pull up all of your will and courage and release a final soul filled call and as the sound issues forth from your lips, the oppressive energy around you seems to shatter and fall away. The powerful force and reverberation of the vibration wraps around you and you feel the personality that you entered this space with fall away. The ego you have carried so proudly shatters from your being and the You who entered this space moves within the spiraling of this powerful force of energy reshaping and transforming. You close your eyes and willingly surrender to this action and allow the necessary release and rebuilding of your subtle and physical forms. It seems as though time has stopped and for the briefest of moments you and all space, time and creation are one in the same.

As the energetic outpour begins to lessen around you, you gently open your eyes and looking upward see a tiny point of light above you. Although very small and far away, you can feel the intensity and radiance of this light and know it to be the reentry into the world of matter and form. As your breath slows to an even and steady pace you see that the light is growing brighter and larger as you rise on ascent towards it. Each breath pulls you closer to its light and radiance and the space around begins to brighten, the darkness and magnetic pull of the intense experience held within it slowly fading in its energy and effect on you.

You continue to rise upwards, coming to rest on a soft surface beneath your feet and completely enveloped in the brilliance of this light emanating from a space directly above you. You look at your hands and take note of a luminescent glow about them and the lower part of your body as you look downwards toward your feet.

The light begins to dim slightly and you know that there is still more of the journey you must follow through the lessons of the Higher Realm in final completion of the work done within the Dark Night. You take a deep breath in, close your eyes and resolve that you will embrace each step and challenge that is presented to you. You think on the lesson of this experience, and the birthing of light from what was held in the shadows.  You know you will make many journeys to this space and with each you will integrate the totality of both your light and shadow self as you open to the transformative energies of this space.

You gently open your eyes and see that the blue veil of transition is just a few steps in front of you. You feel yourself enveloped in the veil of transition between the Physical and Astral world. The veils of transformation and all they contain gently fade from your sight and you begin the descent back into your physical state of being and the room and space in which you began this pathworking. Return to awareness of the rhythm of your breath and the rise and fall of your chest. Become aware of the physicality of where you are sitting or laying; your body pressed against cushion, chair or floor.

And when you are ready, gently flutter your eyes open
