As we focus on advancing in spiritual growth and our magickal skills the general goal is one of doing the work needed to connect with that Divinity which is non-corporeal, transcendent and more highly evolved than we perceive ourselves to be. We are always seeking what is the deeper mystery and hidden from our human perceptions. We generally consider ourselves to be the blessed and privileged ones when we experience the presence of the Divine as we invoke the Gods into our work and our lives. And, indeed we are blessed to be able to engage with those unseen beings. The thought that they are just as richly blessed in the commune with corporeal beings such as ourselves is a concept largely overlooked.

You see the fact of the matter is that we have something they desire just as we aspire towards the rare forms that they are. We have been gifted with manifest form that can experience the physical pleasures of touch, the ability to hold someone or something with our flesh and bones, the ability to walk on the surface of a living planet and the ability to create physical life from our own. I have talked before about the role of the Soul as being a stream of the essence of our pure Spirit that descends into physical form and takes in all the lessons of a human life to return these to the formlessness of our Spirit. In many ways this concept punctuates the phrase that “we are Divine Beings having a human experience”.

We are indeed twice blessed to be able to walk between the worlds of the non-corporeal and the physical. As we grow and expand in our work of learning the nuances of energy, vibration and the cyclical rhythms that flow in, around and through us our perceptions of those realms of the non-corporeal opens. It is this work and action that trains us in the receptivity of being able to move in synchronicity with those realms to the degree that we “feel” the presence of Deity in our devotional and ritual work. This is also the space of opening that allows Deity to experience a portion of our human-ness.

So, next you seek out the presence of the Divine, remember…

We work with flesh and bone
The flexing of muscle supports
The action of our daily work.

We touch our beloved ones with care
We see the pain of a suffering world
We hear the music of stars and planets
We taste the products of loving hands
We smell the changing of the seasons
All of these and more the gift of
Manifest human form.

We call out to our Gods and Goddesses
The Limitless All and the Divine
Yearning for their essence to mingle
Join and be as one with our own.

The bliss of union enfolds us in
Its ephemeral embrace and we
Surrender to the loosening of
Flesh and bone absorbed into
The vastness of ocean Divine.

We move on waves of ecstasy
Gently kissing shorelines of
Humanity’s sculpted form
Moving into every life giving
Crevice that has served as the
Astral inroad for time immortal.

The Human hungers for what
He/She has lost the memory
Of its treasure and value.

The Divine yearns for the tales
Of life in form that its progeny
Settles into burrowing deeply
Into the body of Spirit’s lover.

Each seeks the embrace of the other
To more deeply know the pleasure
Pain and sacrifice of the other’s existence.

I have been thinking about and observing for some time now how much we change when we step foot on a spiritual path. These changes occur even if we do not overtly acknowledge the spiritual nature of our work. The volunteer at the animal shelter who has offered up their space of time and energy to sacred creatures is doing the work of Spirit. The person who stops to help another pick up papers that have scattered is doing the work of the Divine. The parent who offers their heart and home to a foster child is walking a path of the Higher Self. And, because of all of these seemingly mundane and small changes, things are different for those they impact and for themselves.

I have also sat and silently observed those who choose not to reach out in a giving way. Their general demeanor is one that is contractive in expression and the rigidity that they exude seems to stifle even their own breath of inhale and exhale. They most often do not see a broader picture and the connections that they forge are strained and impersonal at best. Each day seems to bring more of the sameness and in that stagnant sameness there is very little space for change. There is no time nor space for the Divine and their actions and the  word they create for themselves clearly shows the lack of reverence.

I have expressed both ends of those spectrums. My “me” stage was forged as a defense mechanism because of feeling inadequate and my natural response to being categorized by others that way was to be hard and brittle, never showing weakness or vulnerability. Fortunately, this phase was not a lasting one and as I loosened the defenses a bit and dropped the shields I saw the possibilities held in choosing to live a spiritually rich life.

As I think back on those changes, there is no clearly defining moment that I can point to as being the pivotal awakening. Each step was dynamic in its own way and soon the choices I made, the way in which I expressed my spiritual nature and the expansiveness of that expression were given no more thought than that given to remembering to breathe. And, because of this- Things Are Different!…

Because I have chosen to remain awake in the process of life, Things Are Different!

Because I have chosen to lead, knowing I will make my own mistakes, rather than follow another’s, Things Are Different!

Because I love deeply and am loved, Things Are Different!

Because I ask questions whose answers lead to deeper queries, Things Are Different!

Because I am empowered by what cannot be seen and shape my own course from its energy, Things Are Different!

Because I remain open to change and welcome the possibilities, Things Are Different!

Because I listen to the wisdom of the silence and direct the power of my words with care, Things Are Different!

Because I hold the attitude of gratitude even in loss, Things Are Different!

Because I strive each day to be a better person than I was the day before, Things Are Different!

Because even though I fear change I will let its hand guide me, Things Are Different!

Because I am strong and not afraid to share that strength, Things Are Different!

Because I have silently observed great pain transformed by the grace of perseverance, Things Are Different!

Because I am not ashamed to weep at the feet of the Divine, Things Are Different!

Because I hunger for knowledge and freely give of what has become personal wisdom, Things Are Different!

Because I continue to drink freely from the well of creative inspiration that is Divinely offered, Things Are Different!

Because I have purposefully allowed others to see my vulnerability, Things Are Different!

Because I am a seeker on a path whose beauty is blinding in its simplicity, Things Are Different!

Because I have chosen to create my own successes, Things Are Different!

Because I choose to accept my failures, Things Are Different!

Because I have given oath to walk a path of service, Things Are Different!

Because I live my spiritual truths 24/7-365 days a year, Things Are Different!

Because I push the boundaries without hesitation, Things Are Different!

Because I have felt the joyous surrender of giving myself completely in the ecstasy of music’s embrace, Things Are Different!

Because I am a catalyst, Things Are Different!

Because I offer up devotion to my Gods through the strivings of my own humanity Things Are Different!

Because my life is filled with the magick of knowing there is More to Be-Come – I Am Different!

I sit in a place of quiet and
The tensions of the day fall like
Droplets of water at my feet.

Before me is a candle of light
That opens my mind to the
Potential that lays within.

Below me is the floor of
My home, the treasured
Strength and foundation
That supports and holds
Me in its warm embrace.

Above me is the shelter that
Keeps me warm and dry as
The elements rage and winter
Takes its icy hold.

Within me is the gift
Of a Universe of star-filled
Light and core of primal waters
That call me into their depths.

Time ceases and the rhythm and
Flow of Cosmic vibration’s
Design moves through me as
Subtle bodies respond to
The playing of their celestial
Light filled strands.

I sit and I connect with
My innermost thoughts
And this sacred space of
Physical and ephemeral
Holds my secrets and
With silent encouragement
Moves me along my chosen Path.

What do you claim as your space of spiritual practice? Is it a beautifully appointed room set aside only for the sacred work? Or, does it rest at the core center of who you are?

The notion of sacred space having to always be a definable and discernible location is one that is perpetuated. There is, of course, work that requires the establishment of a firmly defined locale that is prepared as sacred space, but I would like to expand that place of setting to be a definition that is inclusive of those places of spiritual practice that are limitless in their reach and less definable in their boundaries. If we consider the daily work we undertake for ourselves that is often dense with responsibility, short on personal time and filled with obligatory action, the definition of  a dedicated space of spiritual practice becomes less about the where and more about the who.

All around us people engage in some form of practice continually. By definition, the word practice means:

  1. the actual application or use of an idea, belief, or method as opposed to theories about such application or use.
  2. repeated exercise in or performance of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it.
  3. carry out or perform (a particular activity, method, or custom) habitually or regularly.

These are all applicable at some (or many) times as we move through our day’s activities. These actions may not be defined as “spiritual” in nature, but the the fact is that we are inherently divinely spiritual beings. Therefore, every action, word, thought, effort we make (in any of the worlds, but most particularly in the physical realm) is part of an ongoing practice of becoming more engaged at deeper levels with what and who surrounds us. The opportunities are endless in offering diverse experiences that allow us to “practice” the art of spiritual awareness. A simple smile offered to one who seems unapproachable; the wishing of a good day to a stranger or the speaking up on behalf of someone whose voice does not have the strength to be heard are all points of lessons learned from practice.

Many of us believe that living a life that is full and enriched by our spiritual path is one that occurs 24/7-365 days a year. If we make our best effort at living the expression of that belief then every setting we find ourselves in, whether it be the meditation room or the board room of your workplace, is indeed sacred space. What occurs in that space may be less than a positive expression of our higher nature, but that does not negate the fact that the space that is holding that energy remains sacred all the while. Imagine how that thought process would potentially change the interactions had and the outcomes achieved?

Now, I am not suggesting a pollyanna approach and an “everything is beautiful” attitude in every situation. Quite the contrary. I believe that we rise to our spiritual best in times of adversity if we hold true to the intent that the sacred is all around us and treat each situation, no matter how difficult, with carefully weighed response. The slow and steady daily strengthening of intent and refining of our will towards a state of flexible response becomes the transparent support for the time we spend in meditation, working our magick or honing our energetic bodies. The challenges we face in daily interaction are not so dissimilar to those we encounter as we stretch ourselves towards quieting our minds in contemplation or pushing ourselves a bit further in the magick we weave.

As we become more inclusive of our environment as sacred space in our spiritual work, the extension of this realm of earth towards the greater Cosmos is not so far a leap. We open the lens of our perception a little wider and begin to notice the sun, the moon and the stars and the subtle effects each has on our deeper work. We sit in quiet reflection opening our consciousness to be fully present in the sacred space we have established and transform that space into the tapestry of our solar system. The sun takes on a different form, the Moon becomes the face of the Goddess and the stars tell the story of ancient lands and beings of great power. We draw our consciousness back into the reality of our physical space and return from the vastness of an indefinable and boundless space of practice forever changed.

So, as you go through your day, see the sacredness of this physical experience as a gift of trial and error. Practice the art of your spiritual truths with each breath of inhalation and each sigh of release. Look up towards the heavens and breath into the vastness of a sacred space of which you have access by the will of true intent. Bring the sacred into every aspect of your being and step fully into being the sacred space of your spiritual practice.

So Mote It Be!

10--34490-Puzzle Pieces coming Together
When we remember it is similar to pulling together the pieces of a puzzle. A common strategy is to find the pieces that are the edges of the puzzle and fill in from a place a stable boundary. From this foundation, the inside pieces are added and before you know it you can see the whole picture of the completed puzzle!

I did a tarot reading for myself last night that resulted in the cards clearly relaying the message of re-membering and re-assembling the balance of heart and mind to enhance the relationships I currently enjoy. Particularly the relationship I have with the various parts of my SELF.

This process is about the alchemy of strengthening existing relationships and creating new ones that offer opportunities for collaborative and creative sharing. For most of us it is an easier task to attend to those relationships outside of ourselves. The hardest is facing and biding the space of dialogue between the various parts of our Inner Selves. Turning within to re-member and reassemble those parts of self is the first act of collaborative self-relationship.

When we claim our natural state of balance- the place where both our light and shadow natures intertwine and become as one source of strength, we begin the act of memory of our Divine potential. When we gather together those gifts of heart, mind and body and align them with our Soul’s purpose we begin the alchemy of reassembling what had been scattered and separated. As that inner relationship is tended and nurtured we can begin to expand and extend the joy found in that process to infuse those outer relationships we hold so dear.

And, the positive energy that flows from a mutual exchange of life lived in totality brings with it the shared experience and sweetness of grace for all that was freely given and all that was gratefully received. I will remember to give adequate time for reflecting on those parts of myself that have lain dormant and unloved. I will embrace them as my own and use them to build a stronger foundation upon which I may more generously give. I will add each piece of the puzzle with intention until the last piece is settled into its place and the picture of one who loves and is loved is complete.

What will you re-member of your life?

15142115_s I step cautiously into the current of churning
Waters that would carry me forward.

Fear of losing ground and being pulled
Beneath the water’s surface calls me back to
The banks of my perceived safe ground.

I stand ever as the observer looking out
Onto a horizon that can only be revealed
In its beauty to those who simply let go.

I step into the comfort of my skin and look
Down into the water’s mirrored surface
This time I will not turn away from a reflection
Of doubt cast of face and form staring back.

I will not look beyond the surface of my physical
Form and vow to open an understanding heart
To the fear and doubt reflected and staring back.

I strain and push against a physical container
Never fitting quite right and aspiring for more
I hover just above my true Divine nature
Never settling in and remaining poised and
Always in precise and exacting control.

I move back turning away from water’s call
For now these first steps will prove enough.

I am not ready to face the icy waters of reality
I am not ready to claim the victory of surrender
I am not ready to trust the process and move
With the powerful currents that transform.

I am not ready to be released!

What holds you captive and what will you choose to release so that you may flow with the current of life? How will you surrender to trusting the essence of Deity that is ever within?

“Is the intention pure, selfless, and born out of love? Is it based on truth?
Does it result in peace? If so, it is a right action.”
… Sai Baba …

I often come across various quotations that stir me deeply and bring me back to a place of remembrance of what my Higher purpose is. These are not something I look for; but rather, they present themselves at just the appropriate time. This was posted on my daughter’s Facebook page, which I rarely look at. And, as soon as I read it, I knew this was my reminder to be more mindful of how I move through my day. To be more conscientious in my interactions and to pause before deciding, speaking or acting to allow for the space of observation to come forward. That briefest moment of reflection before charging ahead can reveal a different perspective, a deeper truth and possibly a different choice.

For me, these questions posed in this quote are the filters that should guide me to move from a place of love and greater understanding. To make each day an expression of integrity and to act in a way that is in alignment with my Soul’s work. What intention do you have? And, what filters will separate the true gold from that of the “fool”?

I see in your face the landscape of your experience
I see in your mind the vision of the immanent Divine
I see in your eyes the reclaiming of the wisdom of lifetimes
I see in your mouth the words that are the breath of creation
I see in your serenity the peaceful flow of true Higher Will
I see in your heart all-loving compassion woven from pain
I see in your body the aspiration towards greatness
I see in your soul the humble gift of human frailty

I see in your Spirit the reflection of my Own

The Pentagram is an ancient symbol that has had varied associations of meaning and relevance attributed to it. Esoterically, it has been used as a sacred symbol in Western Hermetics, Eastern philosophies, Christian Gnosticism and other religious practices. In some form, the Pentagram was important to almost every ancient culture, including the Mayans, Greeks and was found scratched into the walls of Neolithic caves and Babylonian drawings. Its most prevalent use in modern times has been in association with Western Hermetics and the spiritual paths of the occult.

The pentagram is a five pointed star. The term Pentacle, which is used interchangeably with Pentagram, is generally applied to the depiction of the pentagram enclosed within a circle. Magickally, this completed symbol references the continuum of the cycle of all things and the presence of the five alchemical elements as contained within that continuum.

photo

A Tool of Working

Used as a sacred tool in Wiccan practice, the Pentacle is used as physical representation of all of the alchemical elements; Spirit, Air, Fire, Water and Earth. It is used as a symbol of earth and in Gaia’s physical form the containment of these elements in the foundations of earth, sky, water, mineral and the Spirit of these elements. For one who uses the Pentacle in ritual and magickal working, it symbolizes the foundations that have been laid in developing affinity and knowledge of the elements and the harmony and balance of the natural world. Its cardinal direction is North.

paganaltar
A Pentagram may be placed on an altar, scribed into the ground in creating sacred space or inscribed on other tools. The Pentagram as a tool of grounding and magnetic attraction is often worn as an amulet in ritual space. In this way, the Pentacle is one and the same with he/she wearing it and is a reminder of their connection to all of the elemental energies present.

The Pentagrams of the Elements
Slide1

Now imagine using the Pentagram as a tool of connection and synthesis of the subset of elements. Each element contains within itself parts of all of the others and each expression of a subset varies ever so slightly, but effectively in creating something of higher expression that is the synthesis of the two.

The subsets are:

Air of Air, Air of Fire, Air of Water, Air of Earth, and Air of Spirit

Fire of Fire, Fire of Water, Fire of Earth, Fire of Air and Fire of Spirit

Water of Water, Water of Earth, Water of Air, Water of Fire and Water of Spirit

Earth of Earth, Earth of Air, Earth of Fire, Earth of Water and Earth of Spirit

There is very transformative work that can be done in accessing and applying this energy toward your spiritual growth. They may also be used in ritual and spell work. What makes this approach slightly different than simply using the subset of elements individually is their anchoring within the form of the Pentagram. Numerologically, the number Five (5) is the great disrupter and transformer. This is the intent in working with the Pentagrams in this way. To disrupt the status quo and provide the appropriate catalytic energy needed to affect change from a stable baseline.

We use the concept of the Pentagram itself being the stabilizer and form of foundation from which everything else arises. So how would this energy vary if that container of stabilization were Air, Fire, Water or the amplified energy of Earth itself?

Air Pentagram – The Foundation of Mind

imgres

The Creative Consciousness

Spirit – The Divine expression of Mind. The well spring of Source for inspired thought and the breath that is immanent in its flow and all-encompassing in its flexibility. This is the breath of creation and the sacred utterance that infuses the first breath of life in its progeny.

Water – The movement of idea and thought. Brainstorming and those “ah ha” moments that pour into our consciousness like liquid. These are those that stimulate the intuitive nature and come in torrential floods as warnings to be heeded.

Fire – These are the thoughts that wake you from a dream-state and demand that you write down all that is needed. These are the ideas that are un-relentless in their demands for attention and can easily become compulsiveness. These are also those thoughts that create spontaneity and become the exciting adventures that are unplanned and abundantly satisfying.

Earth – This is your physical brain and all that feeds its functioning. This is the space of mind that generates electricity and serves as the receptacle of all that comes into its realms. This is the command center of the neurologic system and regulates and coordinates movement throughout the various systems of the physical body.

Air – The state of pure mind. Abstract thought and the beginnings of inventive creation. Nothing is projected from emotion. It is pure logic and analytical thinking whose only process is that of rationale and substantive reason.

Fire Pentagram – The Foundation of Will

Magick_kruh

The Consciousness of Primal Instinct

Spirit – The Inner Spark that enlivens and is the holographic cell of Light that is contained within the Cosmos. These are the fires of the Cosmos. The fires of the stars and energy of Light that is inherent in all that is contained within the Universe. This is the Cosmic Fire that acts as a prism refracting and deflecting its rays as its emanates out in creative expression as the planets, stars and living matter of the Universe.

Water – The all-pervasive flow of action that carries with it the fires of determination as it carves out its own path of direction. This is the action of will that spills into every crevice and opening that offers itself to the test of change.

Fire – The dynamic and pure form of will expressed devoid of emotional application or mental analysis. It takes burns brightly and with intensity because it knows no other state of being. This is the state of passion without any intended goal of recipient other than the imminent transformation of anything that steps into its bounds.

Earth – The physicality of the digestive system. This is the physiological system responsible for the fires that extract nutrients, discard waste and keep the physical machinery working at optimal capacity. When we speak of will we often equate the fuel of desire or urge with what generates the fires that produce spiritual results. Now think of the digestive system. Hunger (pangs) drives us to feed/fuel ourselves and the urge to make way for new nourishment prods the urge of elimination. Additionally, the digestive system is the space of immunity and providing what is needed to keep us healthy.

Air – This is the space of concept. The concept of an intended goal that stimulates the need to act in whatever way is in accord with realization of that goal. This is the image that calls into being what is needed to complete the process of out-picturing the end result. Air provides the necessary “oxygen” that keeps the fires of will (and desire) burning. As pure Will takes command the flow of air (mind) drops away, no longer needed, and the inexorable heat of intention becomes the bellows of sustenance.

Water Pentagram – The Foundation of Emotion

The Sub-Conscious

Spirit – The dialogue of “knowing” that flows from the Divine in continual stream of healing and intuitive awareness. Gnosis is birthed in these waters and it is from this gnosis that the pause of reflection and the all living compassion of stillness flows.

Water – This is the space of pure feeling that reaches deeply into the stores of the unconscious. This is the place of memory of past experiences and the feelings they evoked which have brought you to the present state of response (or reaction).

Fire – The extremes that ignite us to passion or cool us to apathy. This is the Fire that ebbs and flows as encounter each new opportunity for response and action. This is the molten lava that streams out of the eruption of volcanic pressure and is slow, steady and lasting in what it burns away.

Earth – The waters and fluids that flow through our physical body. These would include the blood and the hormones secreted from the endocrine system. This would also include the bodies response to drawing moisture into itself from the physical surroundings and the release of toxins and cooling of the body through the excretion of sweat.

Air – This is the energy that oxygenates the waters encouraging the current to move strongly towards its source. These are the boiling waters that bubble up heated by directed flame. This is the steam that rises from the surface in wave like currents veiling the clarity of what lay ahead and leaving an illusory vision imprinted in memory.

Earth Pentagram – The Foundation of Manifestation
This Pentagram is the one that most closely resembles our normal use and singular concept of the Pentagram as the Tool of Earth containing all of her elements.

url
 Conscious Awareness

Spirit – This is the foundation from which has emanated a seed of our true nature into physical form to learn the lessons of that existence. This is the space of our true state of Being; the unknowable that we merge back into at physical life’s end. This is the desire to know the purpose of life’s worth and the measure of our progress in our eternal cycle of rebirthing. This is the pre-eminent foundation that was, is and forever shall Be.

Water – The way in which we move through the world. The ease with which we navigate the challenges of a mundane existence and the flexibility that we allow ourselves as life ebbs and flows along its course. We could think of this energy as that of the waters continually and rhythmically striking the edge of the shoreline. With time and persistence the shoreline changes in response to the pressure. And with each exertion of pressure against what appears to be solid unmoving ground, there is a slight giving way, a slight change in response and this is what carves the new shore without its complete destruction.

Fire – We could consider this energy as being the action we take. This is the call to carefully tend the fires that prod us on and to be attentive to how widespread their flames reach. We use this as the tempering of what would lead us on a path less productive and when the need-fires of hearth and home require our fueling. This is the realm where intention and determination are developed as each action causes a reaction and each reaction becomes the catalyst for another action, ad infinitum.

Earth – This is the physical body we have taken as form of expression in this lifetime. This is the Temple of potential and the working machine that insures our survival. Our bodies are the ultimate test of our devotion to the Divine. If we truly believe that we are part of the Divine then the way in which we honor our physical bodies remains in accord with how we honor Deity. This is not to say that there is no room for faltering in the care of our physical form, but effort would be made and awareness of when we were less than kind to ourselves would develop.

Air – This is the energy of our thoughts and ideas. These are the products of pure Mind having been acted upon by analysis, sorting and drawn down into a place of concrete consideration. These are the plans for what will be made manifest and the energy of thought that went into that planning. Intellect emerges as a way of differentiation and weighing of the validity of what arises as thought as we refine our perceptions and build our base of information.

The Quint-essential Tool

My suggestion for working with these would be to use them as experiential and contemplative tools. Use only one at a time, perhaps beginning with the Pentagram you wish to gain more insight and experience with. For instance, I am a very Air-based individual and have worked very hard to connect with the emotional aspects of myself. I would begin my work, then, with the pentagram of Water using each of its points as a frame of reference and insight as I explore their meanings within the context of my own personality. What would begin as a contemplative act, would then become opportunities for me to experience the nature of emotion as expressed through the Fires of creativity. I would seek out opportunities to engage both my mind and my heart in creating something. As I moved through each point, the space of contemplation about that energy and the bridge of connection towards application and experience would begin to shift my perceptions and responses. This would occur slowly and possibly transparently at first, but eventually with continued practice and perseverance, I would be able to call into action the foundations built on my Pentagram of Water and when the normal recourse would have been to process only from the mental, emotion would temper and balance.

I see these Pentagrams as being infinite in the possibility of exploring them from many different perspectives. The more frames of reference you can apply to any spiritual tool the more you are adding to the foundations you have established that anchor and stabilize your mundane life and your spiritual work. Five blessings on your journey:

Five Blessings As You Begin Your Journey…

May the wisdom of the winds flow through your thoughts
May the passion of the eternal flame ignite curiosity
in your heart
May the waters of the Great Mother soothe and heal the challenges
you encounter in your seeking
May the strength of the gifts of nature and life’s energy
feed, comfort and sustain you
And
May you always reside in the Brilliance of your Divine Self

The Lion roars and all
Tremble in fear at the
Power of this wild energy.

Mane of mind flaming as
Strength pours from raging
Will that is powerful in intent.

And from the shadow of night
Teeth are bared and eyes seek
Out its prey and with one
Powerful strike of clawed paw
Life ends and blood spills anew.

POWER is a word that evokes many feelings and memories of experiences of being held in the potency of its energy. By definition, Power is…

1. The ability to do something or act in a particular way, especially as a faculty or quality
2. The capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events
3. Physical strength and force exerted by something or someone

These are the main uses of the word, with many subcategories of definition for each. The overall feeling is one of active movement and of directing that flow towards an intended goal. There is nothing gentle about this action; just as there does not necessarily have to be anything brutish about it. Power is simply pure force and flow that is neither good nor bad in its natural state. It is shaped and formed within the container of our own w/Will to be used in application according to the desires that fueled that w/Will.

The admonition.. “with great power, comes great responsibility” speaks to the discipline required to stand in a place of allowing this force to flow through you. The requirement is one of accountability and taking action only from a place of centeredness and self-awareness. This accountability morphs and changes as we expand our perceptions of ourselves in relation to others and the world in general. Moving beyond concern only for the self into the greater pool of humanity and how our actions affect others redefines who and what we are held accountable to.

A more expanded world view leads us to seek out those opportunities and experiences where we may be of service and use the knowledge we have gathered for the benefit of others and thus also ourselves. In this way we are able “to direct or influence the behavior of others or the course of events” and act in a powerful way. This force of change will often manifest in a physical way, moving obstacles that would prevent what is needed most from reaching who/what is in need.

There is a raw fierceness about Power and un-relentless quality that gnaws down to the bone of the matter taking nourishment from what would otherwise be unyielding. It evokes fear in many as being an unworthy companion to humility. And, it is this fear that becomes the food of addition that misplaced Power feeds upon, as we have witnessed from the many tryants who have claimed it cloaked in the aberrant expression of their Ego. And, for those who have refined their baser nature, this fierceness bellows out in the cries of freedom and justice for those who have lost their power. The addiction spreads and infuses the weak with the life’s blood of strength of desire and will and the uprising begins that heralds a new and more peaceful day.

Standing in a place of Power is to acknowledge the effect of your very existence in the vast sea of living energy and to draw attention to the singular drop that is your contribution to the depths of that cosmic ocean. To be Powerful/filled is to expand that energy reaching out, evolving and growing from a center that is intentionally Willful and Divinely expressive in its nature.

How will you claim your POWER?

Last week’s post gave you some basic information about how to use Numerology for personal analysis. The next two posts will focus on the numbers O – 9 and their energies as esoteric tools. I’ve included some corresponding information about each number and its relevance to Astrology, Tarot and Qabalah. There are multiples layers of meaning in each of these systems and this series of articles is only meant to whet your appetite for deeper study.

A note about the planetary correspondences: Although you may find different attributions, those used here are those most commonly used in Numerology.

Zero – O

Cycles, void, the limitless ALL, womb of creation and the Gate of the Divine

The number O is the beginning and ending of all things. It is the energy of cycles and as such is the container of the great void from which life begins anew. We could think of the number O as being the Divine all or the Limitless All that stretches out in expanse. Looking at the shape and curve the number presents as an invitation to enter through the center point of its opening. The mystery is held in what may emerge from the “other side” as there is always the balance of receipt and release. Moving around the circumference offers the reminder of the cycles in all things, but each revolution is slightly different than what has transpired previously and each new offers the adventure of the unknown.

I think of the zero as holding the potential for whatever I may wish to manifest through the assistance of what is seen and the vast expanse of the unseen. The circumference offers the boundary of container, flexible and resilient in its continuity. And what is held within that boundary reaches into planes of existence that may only be experienced by calling them forth into the reality of the now.

Tarot: The Fool

Tarot Key O – The Fool is the first of the Major Arcana cards. His is the limitless starting point of creation and the limitless source of all life. The Fool moves forth trusting that all will be as it should and that there is no need to fear stepping into the unknown. The energy is that of ultimate faith and by the vision of this Faith all barriers are removed and the Divine flow steps into the potential of its own being.

One – 1

The singular “I”, the individual, the line of continuum, energy held and gathered back to itself

The number One (1) is the first product of what was a void of potential (O/zero). It is the singular point and the individual place of new beginnings and energetic growth. From the place of the One is the straight path from which at any point of that path divergence, split and detour can be taken. I think of one as being the singular “I”. This singular “I” is man/woman in his prime form and depending on the spiritual evolutionary state of that man/woman it is either Higher, Lower or combined Selves. This is the state of awareness of your own ‘beingness’ before embellishment or enhancement, relationship or possession, outward identifiers or things that would define you as something more than the prime nature of yourself. Additionally, because the number “one” is the starting place it is also the energy of action and taking steps towards the product of that action.

The planetary energy of the Sun is attributed to the number One. The Sun is the central and prominent cosmic body of our universe. It is life giver by virtue of its heat and the place of quickening or beginning for much of life on our planet. It is the electromagnetic force that if we venture too close we are blinded by the blinding light and heat that pervades. This is similarly the same principle of our own Divine state of being. In truth we are as bold and enblazened as the Sun itself, but as humans in physical form we fail to realize the brilliance of our inner state.

The goal is one of actualizing the self and ego to shine as brightly as the Sun in human form and draw to itself the boons of all that surrounds.

In looking at the shape and form of the number l, it is not difficult to visualize the concept of a singular point reaching downwards towards extension as the other point of origin reaches upwards towards expansion. Each point of origin blends seamlessly into a single line of continuous movement of return and release that holds within its structure the potential for movement in any direction and creation of something new. In the sphere of Kether it is exactly this nature that creates the continuum of ITSELF, expressed through the division of ITSELF.

Astrology: The House of Self (The Ascendant)- Personality and Ego

This is the astrological house that provides the energy that is the core of who you are and how you relate to the world. Our rising sign (always in the First House) is the true you; stripped naked and in all your glory and vulnerability. Its ruling sign is Aries which is the fire of new beginnings and the catalyst that offers enthusiastic curiosity to all of its endeavors. Aries is the one that desires attention and as the start of the Zodiacal Wheel brings the youth of invincible action to all it touches.

Tarot: The Magician

Tarot Key I – The Magician is the conduit of wielding the flow of universal energy from the ephemeral realms of the Divine and the manifest foundations of the Physical world. We see within the Magician the ability and knowledge to effectively create drawing from the universal laws that govern the magickal and the mundane. There is composure and assuredness in this power, yet the realization that he as well is subject to the transformative energies he is choosing to be vessel for. This is a state of control that has been finely honed and exacted with just the precise amount of force and form to produce the product of power and magick. The Magician is the interface that we hold within that contains all that is needed to produce new life and new form of Being. But, its energy may only be accessed when the all of the tools (parts of self) are acquired and mastered.

Qabalah: Kether – Crown

Kether stands as the First Sphere on the Tree of Life. Within the energy of the number 1 is not only the place of singularity, but also a foundation from which the potential to replicate and create in its own diffuse image is contained. It is the beginning and also the point of completion and there is choice to be made regarding that status. It may stay inert and alone or may choose to seek out, diversify and through the ending of its singular nature move towards polarity and duality.

It is from the springboard of the number ONE that TWO and the inherent energy of relationship and comparison is formed.

Two – 2
Collaborative effort- moving beyond the “I” to “we”- duality and polarity that results

The number Two (2)  is the keynote of collaborative effort that feeds polarity and divisiveness. We have moved from a place of the singular “I” to a yearning and urge to interact, divide and expand in the creation of another that is similar, yet different. In this dance of relationship, the opportunity to develop kindness, concern, harmony and balance is fostered. There is now something more than just beginnings and the urge towards action. There is now something to be acted upon and with. Under the influence of the number Two there is a push towards release from indecisiveness and the consideration of the influence and affect to be had by not making a choice.

The planetary energy of the Moon is attributed to the number Two. The Moon presents its energies in a manner of ebb and flow. The emotions (Lunar), if in collaboration with the strength of clarity of thought (The Sun), are powerful points from which all manner of manifestation and creativity are brought forth. The coolness and dark cover of night Moon offers counterpoint and contrast to the heat and light of the Sun.

Astrology: The House of Possessions/Finances

This is the astrological house that provides your place of manifest anchor and stability based on what you have secured for yourself of worldly goods. These things acquired create the building blocks that will become the space of home as they shore up towards the Fourth house of family. This energy is expressed through its ruling astrological Sign of Taurus. Taurus is the protector and procreator that holds its earthy energy as home base to be filled with all that a physical life positively provides.

Tarot: The High Priestess

Tarot Key II -The High Priestess sits in the Temple of the Moon and takes on the triune form of catalytic energy and transformation. She sits in the space of action as the Middle Pillar incarnate as synthesized balance of male and female, force and form. Her knowledge of the mysteries is honed in the waters of deep intuitive knowledge and her persona is that of the cycle of the moon. The High Priestess serves as reminder of the need for spiritual devotion and discipline as guardian of the great mysteries of life itself. In her feminine form she represents the power to sustain newly quickened life and stands as the ultimate gate of passage towards return to the source of creation.

Qabalah: Chokmah – Wisdom

Chokmah is the Second Sphere on the Tree of Life. Within the energy of Chokmah lies the desire for co-creative effort. This is movement from a singular place to one of experiencing the energy of another. It can also be thought of in terms of sacrificing parts of oneself to make another and making space and container to hold that other thing while retaining that part which created it. It is awareness that there is something beyond yourself and the yearning and striving for creating another to act and be acted upon.

Two merge to become one and from that sacred union of contraction and expansion the Three of creative form is birthed.

Three – 3

The point of trinity or third that is created from the friction and combined effort of the two

Within the energy of the number Three (3) is the structure of harmony and the triune nature that forms the three-sided triangle of fire, action and will. Additionally, each component offers a different perspective or dynamic to contribute to that outpour. Three faces, each in support of the other yet one in the same and emanating from the One. Each of these energies works collaboratively with one another in the creative effort of new growth. We find multiple references to the Trinity in spiritual practice. These are but a few:

Maiden, Mother Crone
Youth, Father, Sage
Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva
Father, Son,Holy Ghost

The planetary energy of the number three is Jupiter. Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System and it is this expansive quality that is necessary in seeking a third from the union of the two. Jupiter’s force is one of an over-reaching quality that extends itself far and wide with the intent of covering as much ground as possible. This is done with the intent of sorting through the multiple options presented until finding the one that will be most productive. Considering the energy of Jupiter as it lends its force to any creative endeavor there is great potential for moving beyond what was initially thought possible and creating something entirely new carried forward by the intent fueled at its place of origins.

Astrology: The House of Self- Expression/Presentation

This is the astrological house that defines what you possess and what manner of expression it takes. You have moved from the singular identification of the Self (1st House) and began the process of acquisition of items that create the outer persona of who you perceive yourself to be. Now, arriving at the Third House you have the appropriate external objects that can be the methods you use to communicate who you are. The ruling astrological sign is that of Gemini; the master communicator.

Tarot: The Empress

Tarot Key III – The Empress is the Mother of all life. She sits in quiet repose and strength in the verdant landscape of her own domain. She is the sexual energy that is ripe being both pregnant in her fertility and exquisite in the afterglow of promised union. The Empress offers the vision of what will become and will bear fruit from her union with the masculine polarity and the manifest and spiritual fruits this union will yield. She is the promise of continued life and expression of that life in all of the elemental worlds over which she reigns supreme.

Qabalah: Binah – Understanding

Binah is the Third Sphere on the Tree of Life. Within the energy of Binah we find the Mother and Divine Creatrix; who contains within herself the archetypal womb through which all life is has potential to be made manifest. It is the nature of the male to provide the seed of life, but it is the feminine principle that gives it life, provides the space for gestation and ultimately releases the manifest form into existence or being. It is that feminine principle that holds the primal form within the womb that is both void and full. The vessel that holds nothing also provides the space and potential for it to be filled.

And, the Three needed a structure of foundation and stability from which to grow and seed its harmonious wisdom.

Four – 4

Opening the point of support to a place of foundation, equanimity and force in a balanced state

The number Four (4) represents structure and is the basis of foundation, solidity of form and function and endurance or permanence. Four indicates change (as in the four seasons), versatility (as in the four elements) and a nice solid equi-sided base upon which to build from those changes a versatile nature of enduring qualities. This is the energy that can endure as pressure is put upon it internally and externally.

The planetary energy of Uranus is the planet associated with the number Four. Prior to inclusion of the 3 outer planets, the Sun served double duty for the numbers 1 and 4. Its quality is that of pure energy and catalytic stream that pulses life into everything it encounters. This energy serves to bring to light the varied ways that structure may be created as it draws to itself magnetically (similar to the energy of the Sun) everything that will bolster a structure that will support in a stimulating way.

Astrology: The House of Family

The Fourth House is concerned with those you call family. These are your biological family as well as those who you may consider to be your family of nurturance. This is the energy of the home life and those who are supportive. The ruling astrological sign is that of Cancer. Cancer is the quintessential representation of desire for a loving and supportive home. Its natural energy is one of comfort and creation of a home that is both sanctuary and place of caring community. When we are blessed with this type of support it becomes the foundation that enables us to reach out to others from a place of understanding and love.

Tarot: The Emperor

Tarot Key IV – The Emperor sits as merciful authority and king needing nothing but his own Divine wisdom to guide his actions. This energy gives insight into the discipline required to sit as master of one’s own destiny. All actions taken are reflected back to the Emperor and his final authority determines the force and quality of what that final seed of potential will become as it is transformed by merciful action.

Qabalah: Chesed- Mercy

Chesed is the Fourth Sphere. Within its energy is the ability to see thee bigger picture and make informed judgment based upon that vision. This is the action of Mercy when it relies upon a broader perspective from which to draw its conclusions.
Everything depends upon this precarious balance of equi-lateral view that hangs on the tip of the blade that will determine its final outcome. The essence of the fourth sphere of Chesed is one of achieving a state of balance through compassion, mercy and right action.

The Four pushes and strains expanding and seeking the sweet product of change as the orderly disruption breaks through as Five………

Tipping Point:
Don’t forget to write these numbers down in your journal. Formulate your own conclusions based upon what you know so far. Remember to intuit your way through these numbers. You will refer back to them.

Presentation2

Last week’s post gave you a broad overview of the process of calculation used in numerology and some of the ways this practice may be used. This week the focus will be on using numerology as a tool to gain deeper insight into the personal you. Much like astrology, there are certain inherent characteristics that are a “possibility” for your use and development. These “possibilities” present as the specific energy that is surrounding when we are born, named and at other pivotal points during our lives. To review:

“When using names rather than numbers to make a determination, each letter has a numeric value that provides a related cosmic vibration (look at the end of the post for letter values). The sum of the numbers in your birth date and the sum of value derived from the letters in the name provide an interrelation of vibrations. These numbers show a great deal about character, purpose in life, what motivates, and where talents may lie.”

Those who use numerology as a predictive tool use the numbers to determine the best time for major moves and activities in life. Numerology can be used to decide when to invest, when to marry, when to travel, when to change jobs, or relocate and for any other predictive possible outcome about which the querent seeks information.

There are six aspects of your personal numerology that we’ll take a more in depth look at the esoteric meanings of the calculated numbers.

• The Life Path/Lesson
• The Birthday Number
• The Expression Number
• The Soul Urge Number
• Your Inner Dreams Number
• The Personal Year Number

If you find that numerology resonates with you, consider dedicating a journal to this study so you can record our personal information and any impressions, insights or other you may come across as we look at the individual numbers. This, like most esoteric studies (Astrology, Qabalah, etc..), is an ongoing process that unfolds in a series of many years of observation and research. Continued work with the numbers and occasional meditation on the deeper vibratory meanings and essence of each number will yield surprising results that give you a deeper knowledge of your own energetic and vibratory patterns.

To Begin:

• Write out your full birth name (or name you most often are referred to; as in the case of a married woman).
• Write out your birth date

Using my information as example:

Robin Candace Fennelly (nee: Grayson*) * I am using my married surname since it has been my surname for 34 of my 58 years.

Born: February 2.1956

The Life Path or Life Lesson Number
You Are…

The Life Path is the sum of the birth date. This number represents who you are at birth and the native traits that you will carry with you through life. The Life Path describes the nature of this journey through life.

2 + 2 + 1+9+5+6 = 25/2+5 = 7

The Birthday Number
You Have …

The birthday is a supporting influence added to the Life Path. Think of it as a modifier to the Life Path. These are traits that you brought into this life much as with the more important and dominating traits shown by the Life Path. Here is your birthday and the modifying traits shown by it:

2 (the 2nd day of February)

The Expression Number
You Must…..

A number derived from all of the letters in your FULL BIRTH NAME make up what is called the Expression or Destiny number. This is the number that describes the talents and attitudes at your disposal in this lifetime, if you choose to develop and use them. This is sometimes referred to as your potential or destiny. Living up to attributes of this number may not be easy, but it is your goal in the here and now. It is your life’s purpose, spiritual mission, and your field of opportunity.

Use the chart below to determine your Expression Number:

The Soul Urge
You Most Want….

The Soul Urge or as it is sometimes called, the heart’s desire, is an important core influence in numerology. This number is made up from the vowels (a, e, i, o and u) in your full birth name just as it is recorded on your birth certificate.
R O B I N                             C A N D A C E                               G R A Y S O N

Your Inner Dreams
You Wish You ……

The sum of the consonants in your name relates to a secret dream, your inner desires, or maybe even fantasies. This number may be so strong in your subconscious that you even project the trait as a personality mask. It is who you wish to become or how you would project yourself in the world, if not for ?????

R O B I N                      C A N D A C E                G R A Y S O N

     60/6+0 = 6

**Master Numbers are those that are not reduced. These are the ultimate expression of the core value of the particular number such as 11-22-33-44

The Personal Year Number

This number is calculated using your birth date and the current year. The resultant number gives clue as to how and what energies may present or flow through your year. Knowing this can offer opportunities to refine, transform and embrace those aspects of yourself and your life. For example, my number for this year would be:

2.2 2014
2 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 4 = 11 **

Don’t forget to write these numbers down in your journal. You will refer back to them.
