Didn’t think I would be able to finish this book in time. But…… I am pleased to announce my newest book just in time for Sacred Space and other conferences this year!

Temple of the Sun and Moon is a book of pathworkings, poetry, prose and theory with focus on the luminaries of the Sun and Moon and devotional writings to deepen the reader’s connection to their gifts. Enjoy this excerpt from the book’s Introduction:

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Temple of the Sun and Moon. You hold in your hands a unique and very personal book. Many of the lessons I have returned to throughout my years as both a teacher and seeker of occult wisdom were those that stood right in front of me. They were not the imagined hidden stores that I had to procure exactly the right key to gain access to. Rather, they were part of the most mundane of my activities and had travelled with me throughout the cycles of days, seasons and years. I had but to look upwards and see the beauty of the Sun and the Moon reflective and radiant in their downpour.

The most profound of these lessons was found in connecting more fully to the Sun and the Moon as part of my daily devotional practice. This connection reached deeper than my usual honoring of them as luminaries of spiritual and magickal expression. To enter into a more complete relationship with them, I had to also come to know the greater potential that lay within each dawn or new moon. As I began to reveal these deeper meanings, an intricate webbing of inter-connectedness became my own unique tapestry. Each space of devotion and acknowledgement of my connection to the dynamic energy of the Solar and the flowing movement of the Lunar produced another thread of weaving, changing this luminous tapestry in response to the changes within myself.

What I Have Chosen to Include:

As I sat down to write this book it was apparent that there were many approaches I could take to this vast topic of the Sun and Moon. At first glance it may be assumed that this is a book about astrology and although that discipline weighs heavily into the work of the Sun and the Moon I want to show you something more.

Part One begins with a simple pathworking of reminder about our home in this greater Cosmos. This lifetime’s experience is played out on Earth and we are the recipients of all that is physical and manifest that comprises that human existence on this very much alive planet. As you progress through the book you may wish to return to this section and see how your thoughts about what your true connection to this planet is after spending some time in the Temple of the Sun and Moon.

Parts Two and Four explore the energy of the Sun and Moon in their physical and spiritual forms. These writings include pathworkings and experiential practices using the assigned alchemical elements for each, their specific phases and cycles, flow of their energies through our subtle anatomy and more.

Parts Three and Five are poetic and prose renditions of devotionals that arose from experience, ritual, meditation and communion with the Sun and the Moon. These are the writings that were gifted as I sat in the Temple of these luminaries and surrendered to the wisdom they offered.

An additional perspective I’ve included is the Qabalistic attributions of the Sun and the Moon on the Hermetic Tree of Life. This may appear to be a random inclusion and not really relevant when taken out of context from a very complex system. But, what often appears to be random is precisely the bridge needed to get from one body of knowledge to another. Once you stand at that mid-point of crossing, a panoramic view opens before you, allowing more to be seen and more to be appreciated. The randomness now has become the intentional new path to be explored. To assist in the understanding of these correlates I’ve included in Appendix One an overview of the Qabalah that will give just enough information for you to draw the necessary conclusions.

How to Use This Book:

You will find some theory, but only just enough to whet your appetite for finding what will feed our hunger for more. Most of what is contained, however, is words that will stimulate your creative nature. The combination of prose, poetry and pathworking is a style I have been using for quite some time. And, has been successful in creating a richer, more sensorial experience in working through any information provided. As you read through the various sections, explore the feelings and imagery that arises. Breathe into the space of what is between the words and hold the intention that this is as much a journey into the mind as one of strengthened will and emotional flexibility. Most importantly, be open to the possibilities of seeing the Sun and the Moon in a new light of understanding.

Luna looks down
And the spell is cast.

Father Sun fuels the intent
And sustains the
Creative flow.

Weave Your Magick of Light

Build your Temple of Quickening Flame
That strengthens
A call to informed Will
Forged on the anvil
Of
Spirit’s heated intent.

Dream your Temple of Waters
That ebb and flow
As the tides reach towards
The rocky shores
Of
Soul’s return.

For you are the blessed child
Of
Sun and Moon
And hold the gifts of
Their kingship.

And the heavens offer up
Devotion to your birthright
And await your
Gentle hand of creation.

The Butterfly’s Kiss

6a0133f2f53db3970b016764ae25c1970b-800wi

The birds woke me early this morning! Their insistent chirping sounded like a chorus of excited children calling me to come out and play. I stretched and sat up looking out through my small window; its glass reflected with morning’s first light. I could see the small wooden gate of the garden I had planted earlier in the Spring. This was my refuge. I had spent months poring over seed catalogues and I had lovingly selected each flower that would grace its landscape. The design had come easily and the natural placement of tall trees offered just the correct amount of shade and light.

I dressed quickly in my favorite tank top and shorts. The light was streaming in through the window of the front door and caught me in a shaft of its golden light as I stepped out onto the grassy lawn. I was eager to see what new blossom might have emerged as I slept dreaming in my bed and ran down the little hill that led to the entrance to my green world. I pushed the gate open and stepped onto the path I had laid of round stones surrounded by thyme. I stood perfectly still taking in the fragrant aroma of flowering trees and a tapestry of assorted flowers that lined the path. I feel safe in this small space of my own. The trees and flowers are like old friends who welcome me as I come to visit and spend time in their green home. And, I never tire of the new stories that unfold with each visit.

I breathed in deeply and walk deeper into the maze of this green and beautiful world. I begin to hum a little tune in rhythm as my feet make a gentle tapping sound on the stony path. This is my own composition inspired by what I have helped to create. The sun is warm and strong and this is the grand spotlight as I continue my song of voice and foot on stone. The sounds of birds and insects join in and the rustling of the leaves create the chorus for my beautiful garden melody. When I am in this space, time seems to stand still and nothing else matters except the warm sun on my face and the life that is all around me.

I’ve finally arrived at my favorite and most magical space in the entire garden. I call this my dreaming place. This is where I come to sit and dream; to create and to be just myself. It had not always been such a special place. In fact, it was the one area that was the most densely covered with weeds and bramble. It took forever to clear and I was sore for days after. It was well worth the effort, and I remember the excitement and joy I felt when I first saw the chair in the window of the thrift store. It was crafted of wood and had rounded graceful corners that wrapped comfortably around torso and limbs.

I sit down and relax into the support of the chair and close my eyes, feeling the warm sun on my face and body and am glad to be alive on such a beautiful morning. I take a few deep breaths and suddenly feel the gentle brush of wings against my cheek and open my eyes just in time to see a beautiful blue butterfly right in front of me. It hovers over the tips of several of the flowers, stopping here and there and fanning wings open and closed. I follow the pattern of this beautiful creature as it moves from flower to flower and finally comes to rest directly beside me on a tall coneflower. I remain perfectly still, not wanting to disturb it and it goes about its work of busily gathering what it needs.

I remember how long I waited for some of these flowers to reach full bloom and waited even longer still for the birds and butterflies to find their way to this space. I realize how much I love my garden and the joy from that feeling is indescribable. I lean back, settling deeper into the comfort of my chair and close my eyes. The image of the butterfly fills my mind’s eye and I feel myself lifted on gossamer blue wings as a new adventure begins and the vision of this garden warms the bitter chill of the long dark Alaskan winter’s night.

I am pleased to announce that two of my writings are part of this anthology newly released. More information and contents can be found using the link below.

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2016!

2015 was filled with change. Some welcome, other necessary and other still completely out of the individual’s control. It was a difficult year for many and the word saw glimpses of humanity at its worst. This increased anxiety caused many to retreat and remove themselves from the company of community, seeking solace in the theories of peace, joy, health and prosperity. For some, the experience of real life was too painful and hard as we tried it was not always easy to see the world as a safe place to allow ourselves to be fully open to the lessons to be experienced and growth to be gained.

Now, we welcome a New Year and new opportunities to explore and a “clean slate”. Each year has a numerologic energy associated with it. 2016 (2+1+6) resonates to the number Nine (9) and with that resonance the promise is one of endings and new beginnings. More importantly, it is one of crossing thresholds and the potential to step more fully into a newly catalyzed “you”. The number nine holds the potential of initiatory experience. The key word here being, experience. And, experience is my intended focus for this brand new year!

As a Witch, High Priestess and walker on a path of service within my community and beyond, I have studied and read and filled my mind with everything I could get my hands on to pass this information on to my students and community. Theory has been the Deity I worshipped and practical experience evolved slowly, and at times painfully, as I realized the need to leave the Hermit’s ways of theoretical hoarding. There have been some years when I could not pick up another book for months at a time; so sated was my storehouse of mind and information. The irony is that it was during those times that my most palpable and transformative experiences had the time and space to reveal themselves. What I had desired and sought so fervently in teachings, was surrounding me all the while!

For me personally, 2015 slowed many of my mental acrobatics and theoretical expressions as I was called to the action of practical workings and experiences that would bring about the successful birthing of a new Coven. Readings and writings that were in support of the blogs and projects that had begun in 2014 took a back seat to organizing, stretching and reaching out with more of myself in its entirety to attract membership. And, unequivocally, what everyone wanted was to experience the magick I so fervently spoke of for themselves as a palpable thing. This is after all, exactly what attracted me to the Path in the beginning. The feeling evoked in the midst of ritual. The thoughts that rose to the surface as I watched fascinated by the grace and ease of magick flowing from the practitioner. The high that stirred me to action to try the same magick and experience my own result.

Two passes of my second Saturn return helped me maintain the space of structure in a timely fashion and provided the opportunities to engage more in community, ritual and the very physical experiences I so passionately teach, but don’t give enough of my own time to. Had I not slowed the stream of theory, the course would have been fraught with my own mental roadblocks and the distraction of a head buried in a book would have shut down the receptivity of acquiring the wisdom of experience in a different way.

In this year of the Nine of new beginnings I am taking the advice of a very dear friend and making it one of experience. My classes will be infused with practice experience and palpable gifts that can be applied readily and freely. I’ll be posting more audio of pathworkings, meditations and ritual for those who want more than simply rhetoric. For our coven this is a planned year of physical and manifest experience that includes engagement with the natural world, and more importantly engagement with each other.

How will you make 2016 a Year of Experience?

These past few days have been packed with celestial events that punctuate the soon to be ending of a year of highs and lows. The Solstice of December 21st. marked the longest night of the year and as the Sun transited in Capricorn at 11:49p.m., once again we entered the quickening of new Light and the hope that is birthed with that awakening. The Moon waxed in another Earth sign, Taurus and provided a triad of Fire (Sun)-Water (Moon) and Earth (Capricorn and Taurus). The Cardinal(new beginnings and first flow) energy of Capricorn’s Sun moved into position to feed its outpouring of new light into Lady Moon’s birthing waters that stood ready in the Fixed (stabilization and structure) energy of Taurus. Earth is the sign of manifestation, so the potential of what was begun at this Solstice is one of stable and manifest creation.

Breathe deeply
But ever so gently
Breathe deep

The Paradox

70e283578cefb7349ba1d900c30

“All that is gold does not glitter,
not all those who wander are lost.

The old that is strong does not wither,
deep roots are not reached by the frost.

From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
a light from the shadows shall spring.

Renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
the crownless again shall be king.”
… J.R.R. Tolkien …

Finding the hidden meaning. Revealing the truths that are just within reach. Acknowledging the importance of everything no matter how small and seemingly unimportant. Parting the veil and fully embracing the reality that surrounds me. This is my work. This is my quest and this is where I will find the most transformational lessons.

I wrote this post five years ago and have been revisiting it frequently this month. So much has moved quickly around and in me and at times it has felt very surreal. Each new opportunity and challenge has brought me back to anchoring and grounding myself in what I know is real and true.

I also see more clearly now how easy it is to get swept away into the ephemeral. There is a comfort found in remaining in a state of spiritual identity that does not demand of you acknowledgement of what is palpable and needs human interaction to achieve a state of balance and clarity.

So, I shall continue to look for the hidden meaning and the truths to be revealed from that seeking. And, in that process, I will find the authority and power to claim my own kingship.

Blessings as you seek your own….

I call out to Lady Moon
And Nuit looks down.

Moon’s eye bright
As Her body undulates
In a sea of starry expanse.

She smiles down upon me
Her daughter
Her own.

Her breath blows
Through leafless branch
Stirring dry leaves as
They cackle and call.

Take me into your arms
Let me ride the path
Of your light into your
Womb of remaking.

In your fullness
I find my home.

In your brilliance
I find my way.

In your healing waters
I find my heart.

And when I stand in the glory
Of your night sky newly birthed
I lift my voice in devotion
Your daughter
Your own.

Nuit looks down
Mother Moon’s eye
Filled with Love.

Many blessings on this night of Full Moon….

challenges-in-life1

This year has been challenging for many. These challenges have presented themselves in all aspects of our lives much of what we believed to be the stable grounds of haven have been shaken apart as we stand precariously on the edge of undeniable and unavoidable change. My post this week is one of acknowledgement of this change and my own promise to self in navigating these unknown spaces.

If I am able to come to a place of understanding about what the lesson of this challenge may be, than HOPE becomes the motivational force. Healing can begin as new Opportunity allows the space of opening my Perception and being able to fully Engage as an active participant, rather than victim.

What’s Happening and Why?

There are many things in our life’s journey that challenge our progress, test our values and beliefs and stretch us into unknown territories of new growth. We may not have control over when, how and where, but we always are in control of our response and the action we take (or not). For many, the same challenges play out repeatedly in their life and the response is “why does this always happen to me“.

This is where cultivating a place of self-awareness comes in handy. Taking the time to know more about yourself and your behaviors is invaluable and the insight we reveal can become the buoy that keeps us afloat when the most severe of storms rage un-relentless. The fact of the matter is that the more we settle into the fabric of our lives, the more challenges and joys we will encounter. It is not simply because we set ourselves up for either, but it is because we have opened our awareness to what is going on and therein lies the pandora’s box of understanding our paths that we seek, yet are fearful of what lay within.

Awareness and opening writes the pages of our personal manual of understanding. Understanding about ourselves and understanding about what surrounds and calls us to action or re-action.This is the book we return to habitually, even if we do not always clearly see the writing upon the pages. Within the chapters we scribe that offer detailed instruction about how we have navigated each challenge lay the recipe for hope. Hope that all will be well and return to a state of calm and smooth sailing. Hope that we will emerge unscathed and the wounds of our battles will heal. Hope that we will come to a place of healing.

Healing

Understanding creates compassion. And, from compassion the healing can begin. Compassion for oneself and the understanding that even when we feel most vulnerable and fearful there is an inner strength that we may call upon. Until we recognize this as truth, we can never hope to heal the wounds from our challenges.

Healing takes many forms and often what we imagine it to be is not what is received. It is presumed that there is a gentleness about healing, which is why I believe many of us do not recognize it when it comes into our lives. There is great healing in being able to release what no longer serves. At the time, your heart may be broken at making this choice, but time proves that this is precisely what was needed to sustain and support your new growth.

Healing may be the gentle embrace of another picking you up and dusting off the scars of falling flat in our endeavors, but it is also the struggle to regain your footing despite the pain of exertion and no steady place to hold onto. But, from that struggle we gain a deeper understanding of our strengths and indomitable spirit that resides in each of us. From this healing and awareness of our own power over any challenge that besets us, the path is laid open to explore in what over ways this strength may be applied.

Opportunity

Calling healing into our life; most importantly healing of ourselves opens the way for opportunity to flow. Each conscious decision born from a place of self-love creates a new possibility for being able to move through the world with clarity. Every moment of our lives is a call to stepping into the hope of learning the lessons gained from the experiences that are presented to us.

Perception

How we perceive the world and our place within it determines the next step we take. We awaken in the morning and the first thoughts that arise in our conscious waking state dictate how we will move through the day. If all that we sense are the struggles and challenges, these will be what we see first and foremost. Now this is not to say that the power of only positive thinking will keep you free of any negative life experience. But, what we perceive as “negative” and “positive” will guide much of our action.

Many may disagree with this next statement, but I believe that everything contains a portion of its polarity within itself. If we were not aware of and able to define the darkness, how would we make the distinction of what is light? If we do not understand and are able to know what is painful, how can we truly appreciate what is pleasurable? And, so on.

If this is a possibility than what we perceive as hope-less and negative, contains within it the possibility of positive outcome and gratitude for the lessons learned. Of course, holding this intention is the challenging part when faced with difficulties and what is perceived as a hopeless situation, but not finding the space of allowing this intention to be co-creator of the outcome provides the fertile ground for remaining captive in the discord and unable to engage in a productive way.

Engagement

It is our nature to move, stumble, fall, get up again, triumph and fail. This is the way of life. The key note of this pattern is action and more importantly engagement in the process. Hope stimulates that part of our being that seeks to no longer be an observer in their life’s story but instead to be the author. Engagement means you will at times be bruised and battered by what you encounter, but it also means that you will lovingly apply the appropriate ointment and bandages to assist in the healing.

Engagement is the place of choice we come to in the cycle of Healing, Opportunity and Perception. Engagement is both the ending and the beginning of another cycle of HOPE. Because, each time we step more fully into all aspects of our lives, there will be a growth-filled serving of both light and dark, and everything in between.

And, so I take you back to where I began this post- with a slightly different perception:

This year has been challenging for many and the opportunities for self-awareness and growth have been abundant. These challenges have presented themselves in all aspects of our lives as much of what we believed to be the stable grounds of haven, home and self have been shaken apart calling us to deeper understanding of ourselves and the wold around us. We stand precariously on the edge of undeniable and unavoidable change, and in that change lay the path of engagement that will promote healing.

Many blessings that the journey be fruitful and you never lose Hope..
